Must read

Barring any further minutes changes or consultations, the Presidency have commenced immediate search for replacement of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).This is the latest from the outcome of the meeting which President Goodluck Jonathan had with the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party at the Presidential Villa last Thursday night.

Following the revelations of members of the NWC at the meeting and President Jonathan exclamation that “we have a problem in our hands”, senior presidency officials have commenced searching for a competent replacement as national chairman from the northeast zone. It was further gathered that the searchlight for Tukur’s replacement has been focused on the former governor of Bauchi state, Adamu Muazu; the Wakil Adamawa, Alhaji Hassan Adamu, former Acting National Secretary of PDP, Dr. Musa Babayo, and former National Administrative Secretary of PDP, Mallam Habu Fari from Taraba state.

THISDAY gathered security checks are gradually been run on the above listed officials of PDP as a possible replacement of Tukur. The President is expected to meet the PDP NWC members on Sunday or Monday, as the national caucus of the party is expected to meet on Tuesday and the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party would meet on Wednesday and the National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet Thursday to take final decision on the crisis of leadership rocking the PDP.

The NEC, apart from the national convention of the party is the highest decision making bodies of the party.

Hassan Adamu was a former minister in the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was also a former Nigeria’s ambassador to the United Nation, but age is not on his side. He is as old as Bamanga Tukur. Adamu Muazu is the former governor of Bauchi state for eight years. He is also the chairman of Pencom, but not on political good terms with the incumbent governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda. But, THISDAY was told that President Jonathan is making moves to reconcile him and Isa Yuguda.

Musa Babayo was the immediate past acting national secretary of PDP. He is also the chairman of Terfund. He is from Bauchi state, while Habu Fari is from Taraba state. He is a lawyer and politicians with several years of administrative strategy going for him.

Information gathered by THISDAY at the Thursday night meeting between the President and NWC members showed that Tukur may have lost the seat as the national chairman following revelations against him by the National Treasurer, Bala Buhari, the National Financial Secretary, Bolaji Anani and the National Auditor, Wole Adeyanju, who were considered closed allies of Tukur at the NWC.

According to insiders at the meeting, “the National Treasurer who was a former aide to former PDP national chairman, Okwesileze Nwodo complained that the NWC under Tukur was not acting as a team”.
