Police Lift Ban On Political Campaigns In Bayelsa

Barely five weeks to the general elections, the Bayelsa State Police Command has lifted the ban on political campaigns in the state.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday in Yenagoa by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Asinim Butswat, an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The statement said in order to ensure a hitch-free political campaigns, the police authorities in the state had beefed up security with increased vehicular and foot patrols.

It said the police would also carry out intensive surveillance around the venues of rallies.

The police called on members of the public and party supporters to cooperate with the security operatives and also give useful information about persons or group of persons who intend to cause trouble at the venues of campaigns.

The police further advised party supporters to desist from disrupting the activities of perceived political opponents.

The statement warned that the police would deal decisively with any person or group of persons who engage in unscrupulous acts.
