An Abeokuta Customary Court sitting in Ake, Ogun State, has dissolved the 14-year-old marriage between Mr Adewunmi Okukenu and his wife, Bushi, over frequent fights.
Forty-three-year-old Adewunmi asked the court to dissolve his marriage to Bushi on the ground that she was always disobeying him. He added that she had no respect for his parents.
“Any time we quarreled, my wife would insult me and my parents.
“I am fed up fighting her every day. I have reported her to her family, but she has refused to change.
“Please separate us, I am tired of her. I will kill her if she insists on staying in my house,” Adewunmi told the court.
Thirty-five-year-old Bushi, however, denied the allegations, saying she had never fought with her husband.
“My husband is the one who’s always causing trouble in the house. There’s nothing I do or say that he appreciates.
“He can go ahead if he wants our marriage dissolved, I’ am also tired of fighting with him almost every day,” she said.
The judge, Mr Olalekan Akande, said there was no more love between the couple and therefore dissolved the marriage.
He granted the custody of the last child, a five-year-old, to Bushi.
Acording to him, the first and second child who are 13 years old and 10 years old respectively, were old enough to decide who between the parents they wish to live with.
Akande ordered Adewunmi to pay N2,500 monthly for the upkeep of the last child while the schooling, medical expenses and feeding of all the children should be shared by the couple.
