The Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday impeached Governor Murtala Nyako after considering the report of the panel constituted to try him on allegations of financial misconduct
.Eighteen out of the 24 members of the Assembly voted to impeach the governor after adopting the report of the seven-man panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy, Bala Ngilari.
Ngilari, had earlier submitted his letter of resignation to the Assembly on Tuesday morning, hours before the lawmakers could sack him and his principal.
State Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, who was also facing impeachment resigned from office to avoid the hammer.
Ngilari’s resignation letter was accepted after the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umaru Fintiri, read it at today’s session.
Speaker Fintiti will be sworn in as acting governor pending the election of a new governor and deputy.
