A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr Buba Galadima has said there is a grand plan by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) not to hold elections in 2015 contrary to what INEC is telling Nigerians.
He made the statement in Abuja yesterday while speaking to our reporter by telephone, stressing that recent utterances credited to senate president David Mark and the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the ruling PDP confirmed the suspicion of Nigerians.
Galadima also said the deliberate absence of an Electoral Act in 2014 that will guide the 2015 elections five months to the election is an act which portrays the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of PDP’s plan.
“All preparations regarding elections must be based on the Electoral Act, and it is being done one year before the election. We are only five months to the 2015 elections in February and there is no Electoral Act to guide it,” he said.
He accused members of the two chambers of the National Assembly of failing to constitute the committee which will work towards the enactment of the Act because according to him they were also comfortable with the planned suspension of the election.
Galadima added that everything that INEC is doing regarding the election is illegal as it is based on the 2010 Electoral Act which has since been used for the last election in 2011.
“There was a 1998 Electoral Act for 1999, there was the 2002 Electoral Act for 2003 elections, there was the 2006 Electoral Act for 2007, there was 2010 Electoral Act for 2011,” he added.
The APC chieftain therefore said the failure of INEC to provide the 2014 Electoral Act five months to the 2015 general election will be seen as its contribution towards the plan by the PDP to suspend the election using insurgency and other deliberate failures of the federal government as an excuse.
