ABUJA—AHEAD of 2015 presidential election, the South West Youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday said that they were running out of patience and very eager to see President Goodluck Jonathan declare his intention for a re-election, just as they vowed to deliver all the states in the zone for him.
Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, spokesperson for the PDP youths and youth leader, Ogun State chapter, Alhaji Taofeek Osundara expressed his total support for the Alhaji Adamu Muazu-led National Working Committee and the president, adding that youths in the zone will never disappoint him.
According to Osundara, whose theme of the South West gathering was ‘Peace, Unity and Love for National Development’, “We are in total support of the leadership of our party in the South West and their actions towards seeing that Mr. President returns to office in 2015. That is why the youths from all the states in South West have gathered here in Abuja with more than over 1,000 delegates from all the six states in the South West.
“We want to reiterate here that we want Mr. President to come out and contest. There is no reason why he should be delaying his declaration because we are eagerly waiting for him and we are ready and have what it takes to deliver the South West; with the effort of our leadership and the women in the South West, we will deliver the six states from the South West to Mr. President. That is why we are calling on him to come out for the people to know all that he has done for this nation. I don’t think he should delay or hesitate in coming out in a minute because we are waiting and eager.
Also yesterday, the South West leaders of PDP under the aegis, South West Elders Council led by former Deputy National Chairman, Alhaji Shaiubu Oyedokun threw its weight behind President Jonathan’s re- election bid and asked him to as a matter of urgency declare that he was running for the election.
Meanwhile, Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, Chief Tony Anenih has pleaded with party stakeholders, elders, leaders and members from the South West to bury their hatchets and reconcile their differences for the interest of PDP if they must remain relevant in the Party.
Anenih, who spoke at his residence when he received members of South West Network led by its Chairman and Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Hosea Agboola, stressed that against the backdrop of the political scenario in the Zone, it has become imperative for the group to work with elders of the party at the states and the National level to address the dwindling fortunes of the party in the west.
Anenih who hailed the group for the initiative, however pledged his support for the group’s determination to ensure the victory at the polls in Ekiti and Osun and other future elections, adding, “You must brace up to remain steadfast because some other people will try to attack you but since your goals are noble and genuine, then you have my blessing.”
